What Does "Phi" Mean?

The Phi is recognized as one of the most impactful remnants of the legacy of Africans, particularly those from ancient Kemet (Egypt), whose intellectual and cultural contributions have often been marginalized or appropriated. Today, Phi is symbolized by the golden ratio, approximately 1.618, a mathematical constant representing perfect proportion and harmony. Evidence suggests this principle was used extensively in ancient African civilizations, especially in the design of the pyramids and other monumental structures, long before its formal recognition in Western mathematics. More than a mathematical concept, Phi represents “beauty in harmony,” reflecting the balance, order, and sophistication embodied in ancient African art, science, and architecture.

What Does "Groove" Mean?

During the 1960s, the word “GROOVE” was popular among a generation of young Blacks.
Webster’s Dictionary defines the verb “groove” as “to perform deftly or smoothly.” As a noun, “groove” is defined as a “fixed routine in the affairs of life.” Hence, to go against the “groove” means to work against the current establishment, and “grooving” is associated with “socializing or fellowshipping.” These combined definitions form the essence of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, Inc.
